Peckham House

A terraced house in Peckham, refurbished and extended to create a calm, considered home with real character for a young creative family. The existing house had good bones but lacked the space and connection to the outside that Tom and Amanda needed — both practically and in terms of how they wanted to live.

Type

Private residential

Location

London

Scope

Full house renovation & rear extension

Materials

Brick, aluminium, glass, marble

Tom and Amanda wanted a second living space centred around the kitchen and dining area, and a much stronger relationship with the garden. They had outgrown the existing layout, which offered neither particularly well. The brief was to unlock what the house was truly capable of — more space, more light, and a better connection to the outside.

The rear extension resolves both. Full-width sliding crittall-style doors open the kitchen, dining, and living space directly onto the garden, making the boundary between inside and out feel effortless. Externally, the extension is finished in black brick with aluminium cladding and slimline glazing — crisp, handsome, and confident against the existing building. Inside, exposed roof joists introduce texture and warmth overhead, grounding the space without heaviness.

Throughout the rest of the house, the approach is one of quiet refinement. Muted tones, pale oak flooring, marble, and brass fittings create interiors that feel elegant and inviting — classic in sensibility, precise in their detailing, and finished with a warmth and timelessness.
